COUNCIL UPDATE

The St. Peter council met on May 9, 2023.  Reports were shared and Missions gave updates.  An update was given on the timeline for removing the cross on the roof above the sanctuary skylight.  We are working with a professional and insured company to remove the cross.  They will be able to remove the cross when they have time in their schedule.  At the council meeting in April, the decision was made to remove the wooden cross.  It has been a safety concern for a long time as the cross has aged.  The cost of removing the cross is covered by a generous donation.  The council has decided to create a team of people to discuss and explore options for how to move forward.  The worship team presented a motion to have one worship service at 9:00am in the sanctuary beginning Sunday, May 28th through Sunday, September 3rd.  The motion passed.  The worship team presented a motion to have an outdoor worship service in the church parking lot on Sunday, July 16th.  The motion passed.  There was discussion about having a picnic following the outdoor worship service on Sunday, July 16th.  We will have a picnic if we have enough interest and people are able to help organize and coordinate a picnic.  A motion was made to have an aluminum can drive monthly, dates to be decided later.  Motion was passed.  The current financial situation was discussed, and a team of people is going to meet to address immediate and future financial needs.  Members of the council are: Pastor Kristin, Joy, Ginny, Pat D., Dawn B., Steve B., Nate, Connie, Jon W., and Jamie S.

Note: You will continue to receive regular council updates in this email.  These updates include the significant information from the most recent meeting.  If you would like to view any of the meeting minutes we receive,  copies can be found in the binder marked “Council Reports” that is kept below the bulletin board in the narthex.

FINANCIAL UPDATE

We currently have $4,000 in our checking account thanks to a generous giving Sunday the first week of May.  In April, we had $4,400 more in expenses than we had donations.  We are definitely living week to week.  Just a reminder that we need $5,450 in donations each week to meet our budgeted expenses.  Thank you to all of you who saw the recent need and stepped up!  We appreciate you.  Summer is usually tough as giving slows, please prayerfully consider how you can help us maintain the ministries, mission and outreach of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

SOCIAL OUTREACH MISSION NEWS

Fidget Mats

Thank you to those people who have been providing fidget supplies for us, they are so greatly appreciated.   It will be a while before we make deliveries again, but it feels good that we will have enough to take care of all who need these items.   We always have a need for costume jewelry and extra hands to put together mats.   Can you use a sewing machine?   Sew on a button?   Use scissors?   Cut fabric?  Sort doodads?   Cheer us on?   Fulfill what Jesus has asked us to do for our neighbors?   If so, we’d love to have you join us!   Every Thursday from 9am to noon.   Just come!

El Salvador News

Because of some recent health issues, it has been a while since our last zoom meeting with El Salvador, but we were finally able to connect on Wednesday, April 19th.  A list of questions was sent to El Salvador in prep for the meeting and we were able to get the answers.  All of the sponsored children are doing well, and the gangs have eased up which was nice to hear.  The younger children seem to be more relaxed knowing the gangs are backing off.  Overall, the meeting was a success.  The meeting was attended by Steve W, Jim S., Pastor Cruz and Pastor Christian.  We are currently scheduling our next zoom meeting for June and will continue with zoom meetings every two months.  A big thank you for the help setting up the zoom meeting, and thanks to all of you for the continued financial giving. ~ Jim Sch

Crafters Needed for Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice

Tracy Arens, Lead Volunteer Coordinator for Sharon S Richardson Hospice is sending a shout out to all our talented and gifted people who sew.   They need catheter bag covers and clothing protectors.  If anyone would have some time or is willing, our patients would sure appreciate them. If you are willing but need to be reimbursed for supplies, please let Tracy know.  Thank you ALL!

Our quilting group for Lutheran World Relief needs gently used sheets for the backs of the quilts.  Flat sheets are preferred – any size and color is just fine!  Then, join us for quilting on Tuesdays from 9:00am–12:00pm in the quad room.  No experience necessary.  We will teach you.

SCIO

Five families currently call Bridgeway home – 5 moms and 8 children! Please pray for strength and healing for our staff and residents – lots of germs seem to be in our house this season. Bridgeway is in need of twin bed comforters – donations would be greatly appreciated.

Summer Market opening day is Saturday, June 3rd! We are offering EBT again this year and Double Your Bucks up to $10. We will also hand out Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers again, beginning in June. This year the senior vouchers have increased to $35. See you at the Market! Every Wednesday and Saturday from 8-1 at Fountain Park, and NEW LOCATION AND TIME IN PLYMOUTH – Thursdays from 3-6pm at Riverwalk Center, 515 Mill Street, beginning June 15.

Mission Moment: Our client advocate took a phone call from a woman that was fleeing domestic abuse in Milwaukee.  She packed her 7 and 10 year old in the car with a couple of bags of personal belongings and headed north. She was living out of her car and managed to get her kids enrolled in school and take a job transfer.  She worked with the client advocate and case manager to discuss her goals and desire for change, and it was determined that this family was ready to work the program. We have a full house looking for stability, accountability, and grace.

It’s spring and we are getting ready for fun in the sun. Help protect our families with sunscreen and aloe! We would also appreciate bug spray and anti-itch creams. Our families are looking forward to camping and are currently enjoying our backyard. Bring on the sun!
